Frequently asked questions

Why can pharmacists prescribe for these conditions?

Ontario expanded pharmacists’ scope so common, well-defined conditions can be assessed close to home. Pharmacists follow the same provincial guidance for each condition and refer you to a doctor when anything falls outside it.

Do I need an appointment?

No appointment is needed. Walk in, or call 416-789-1800 first and we will tell you the best time to come so you are not waiting.

Does an assessment cost anything?

For Ontario residents with a valid health card, minor ailment assessments are covered by OHIP. There is no charge for the assessment itself.

Will I always get a prescription?

No. A prescription is written only where it is appropriate. Sometimes the right answer is self-care advice, and sometimes it is a referral to your doctor. We tell you plainly which one it is.

What should I bring?

Your health card, a list of medications you take, and anything relevant to the condition. Each condition page on this site lists what to bring for that assessment.

Can you assess children?

Many conditions can be assessed for children, and some have age limits. Check the condition’s page or call us and we will tell you before you come in.

What if my condition is not on this list?

Call us anyway. If a pharmacist cannot assess it, we will point you to the right place, whether that is your doctor, a clinic, or another service.
