Do I need a prescription? Three ways to get a compound: not all of them need one.

  1. With a prescription

    Many compounds are made to your prescriber’s prescription, from your doctor, nurse practitioner, dentist, or veterinarian. We work with them directly.

  2. From our pharmacist, for a minor ailment

    Where an Ontario pharmacist can prescribe for a minor ailment, and the medicinal ingredients are within a pharmacist’s scope of practice, our pharmacist can prescribe the compound directly.

  3. Over the counter

    Some compounds need no prescription at all, like a custom supplement or mineral preparation.

How to get a compound

  1. Talk to us. Call or visit with your prescription or your problem, even if you are not sure a compound is the answer.

  2. We work with your prescriber. We confirm the preparation, the strength, and the form together, so everyone is aligned.

  3. Pick up or delivery. Collect it in store, or have it delivered free across North York and Thornhill.

What is a compounded medication?

A medication prepared for one specific person, when a manufactured option does not fit: a different strength, form, flavour, or base.

Do I need a prescription for a compound?

Not always. Many compounds are made to your prescriber’s prescription, from your doctor, nurse practitioner, dentist, or veterinarian. Some you can get without one: where an Ontario pharmacist can prescribe for a minor ailment, and the medicinal ingredients are within a pharmacist’s scope of practice, our pharmacist can prescribe the compound directly.

Can I get a compounded supplement without a prescription?

Yes, some compounds are over-the-counter and need no prescription at all, such as a custom supplement or mineral preparation. Ask us what applies to what you are looking for, and see our supplements page for more.

How long does a compound take?

It depends on the preparation. We tell you the timing when we take the order, and we can arrange free local delivery when it is ready.

Are compounds covered by insurance?

Coverage varies by plan. Bring your benefits information, or call us, and we will check what your plan covers before anything is prepared.

Can you match a discontinued medication?

Often, yes. If the ingredient itself is available, we can discuss options with your prescriber and prepare a compound where appropriate.

Is compounding kosher-sensitive?

We understand kosher requirements, including questions about gelatin and other ingredient sources, and we can discuss suitable bases and forms for your needs.
